Characters[]

Central characters[]

These are characters without whom the story would not even occur. They transcend any particular section of the story because they have a larger overall importance due to their actions even before the in-game story begins.

Central characters
Lloyd Joe the Marksman Terrell Hall
Lloyd started his career as a simple thug, however he was soon hired by the major gangs that controlled Nicktropolis. He is an extremely rude character and apparently has no regret of the crimes he accomplishes. He was seen in more than one occasion laughing once he successfully gained what he wanted and is particulary ferocious in killing people. When he is not teasing his enemies, Lloyd is a calm and serious man who appears almost emotionless regardless of the situation, and he is a difficult person to deal or work with. Provided he is paid for his services, he will take orders from his bosses without reluctance or complaint. Joe the Marksman is the brash and inattentive son of the mobster John the Marksman. Joe was raised by John, who was not a very kindly father figure, creating turmoil, anger, and apathy in his mind. He was raised to be loyal, but also a ruthless gangster and an unstoppable force. Having experienced nothing but John's cruel treatment, Joe thought of it as only natural, especially for the development of a mobster; learn or die was what he took from it. He invested a great deal of trust and loyalty in his father, coming to fear failing him more than death. When not around his father and not pressured by work, Joe is prominently lazy and addicted to video games. Originally from Fort Pooda, Terrell Hall is the leader of the ACS, an African-American street gang. Terrell displayed a hesitance that was looked down on by some of his accomplices as cowardice. While many of his comrades would opt to rush in with guns blazing, Terrell tended to take a more cautious approach and weighed his options beforehand. However, Terrell was prone to sudden outbursts of violence and could be quite brutal if pushed or cornered. As the leader of the ACS, he idealistically thought of using them as a means to keep Nicktropolis, specifically Downtown City Square, safe.

Gameplay[]

Grand Theft Fanon is an action-adventure video game played from a third-person perspective in an open world environment. The player uses melee attacks, firearms, and explosives to fight enemies, and can run, jump, swim, or use vehicles to navigate the game's world. In combat, auto aim and a cover system can be used as assistance against enemies.

Each character is equipped with a smartphone which can be used to contact friends, engage in activities and access an in-game internet. The internet can be used to purchase properties such as homes and businesses and access a stock market that allows the player to be a stakeholder in businesses; each character can earn income by purchasing businesses and selling shares. The player can purchase upgrades for the weapons and vehicles in each character's arsenal, and customize their appearance by purchasing outfits, haircuts, tattoos and jewelry.

Protagonists[]

Grand Theft Fanon is played through three player-controlled protagonists: Lloyd, Joe the Marksman, and Terrell Hall, criminals whose stories interconnect as they complete missions. While interacting with the game world, the player may switch between them at will, by means of a directional compass on the HUD.

During missions, the game may switch the player's character automatically as necessary in order to complete certain objectives. A character's avatar will flash red if they are in danger and need assistance either manually or through covering fire from another, and flash white if that character has a strategic advantage or position which may aid the player's success in the mission.

Health and death[]

If the player's health is low, it will gradually regenerate to its half-way point. Health can be fully regenerated again if the player eats, uses medical kits, or calls for paramedics. Body armor can absorb gunshots and explosive damage but is gradually used up in the process. If the health level reaches zero, the action stops, and the player re-appears at the nearest hospital having lost some money.

Police[]

If the player commits illegal acts while playing, the game's law enforcement agencies may respond, which is represented by a "Wanted" meter in the head-up display (HUD). On the meter, stars are displayed to indicate the player's current "Wanted" level; for example, at the maximum five-star "Wanted" level the efforts by law enforcement to incapacitate the player become very aggressive. Should the player escape the immediate area in which they are wanted, law enforcement officers will search for the player. At this point, the line of sight of officers displays on the mini-map; when line of sight is broken and the player is hidden, the "Wanted" meter enters a cooldown mode and eventually recedes.

Map and vehicles[]

The game is presented as an open world; it is a large, open map which can be freely roamed when the player is not partaking in missions. The map is composed of the fictional city of Nicktropolis and its open countryside area.

The player can utilise a variety of vehicles to explore the game world. Every vehicle in the game uses the in-game minimap as a GPS device. Waypoints can be placed on the map, plotting the shortest legal route between the player and the destination on the map. The player can also hail a taxi or cab, which allows travel between destinations without having to drive. The journey can also be skipped, so the player arrives at their destination instantly. However, if the player decides to skip the journey, it will cost them more money.
